„A ray of dark”” ks. Witold Urbanowicz SAC, 2023 Paryż

GENESIS

The Litany was written over 30 years ago, in the course of a single night, by a priest who, after going to bed, began to be filled with various pious thoughts. He got up and within less than an hour wrote them down in the form of a prayer.

The text of the prayer lay in a drawer for 30 years. It was discovered by friends of the priest, who decided to disseminate this prayer after first obtaining an imprimatur from the Church authority. The prayer very quickly met with great interest among both clergy and lay people.

The Litany is a good aid in living out the Christian experience of daily life. Sacred Scripture points out that human unfaithfulness to God and a lack of consistency in faith often come from a way of thinking that is distant from God’s way. “My thoughts are not your thoughts,” says God through the prophet Isaiah, and Jesus rebukes Peter with the words: “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me, because you are not thinking about the things of God, but about the things of man” (Mt 16:23).

If we want to live truly as Christians and not lose our faith, we must constantly take care to shape our way of thinking and reasoning according to the mind of Christ. This is especially necessary in times of particular confusion and manipulation of thinking, and of the increasing influence on our minds of non-Christian ideas and artificial intelligence. This litany, when reflected upon attentively, can be an effective defense and help in preserving our Christian identity, in our conversion, and in the creative living of time.

Therefore, as we pass on its content, we warmly encourage its recitation and meditation.
